Day 2 of food and attractions in Langkawi, here’s what we did:
We started the day at The Andaman Hotel, and ate the buffet breakfast in the morning. The food was quite good and the buffet was very extensive. There’s nothing I enjoy doing more than eating fish curry for breakfast.
After breakfast we drove to the SkyCab, which is one of Langkawi’s most famous attractions, a cable car that goes up the side of the second highest peak in Langkawi. We took a ride on the glass bottom gondola car, and the ride took about 10 or 15 minutes to reach the top. I especially liked the glass bottom to get views of what was below us as well. At the top of the Langkawi SkyCab there is another attraction called the SkyBridge, bridge that spans from one peak to the next. It was pretty cool to walk along the bridge and enjoy the view. Also, located in the same complex, we went to Art In Paradise, which was a painting museum the are made for taking photos. So you stand in front of the painting and take photos - it was quite well done.
For lunch we went to Malaysia 1 Restoran and went to a restaurant called Mr. Asam Pedas, who specializes in a Malaysian food called asam pedas, a spicy and sour curry. I had the asam pedas with fish, which was incredibly good - the flavors of the curry were extremely good, and I loved all the herbs and spices included.
One of the main reasons my wife and I were invited to Langkawi was to attend the Langkawi Laksa Carnival, a festival celebrating the dish of laksa, which is a number of different types of noodles and curry. I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect, but today was the opening ceremony and so we first walked around and ate some amazing noodles - some Chinese hand pulled noodles, and a laksa from the Malaysian state of Kelantan, both of which were extremely good. I was then asked to be part of a simple cooking competition, and though I had no idea what I was doing, it was a lot of fun.
After the Laksa Carnival opening, we then went to Ayer Hangat Night Market, which is a local food market on Friday night. Everything looked delicious, but I had to go with a dish called nasi kerabu, rice with toasted coconut and herbs, and then I chose some fish and fish cakes to go on top. We also had beef curry with sticky rice which was also delicious. The food at Ayer Hangat Night Market was fantastic!
