President Donald Trump was pressed in the Oval Office why he did not coordinate or inform allies, such as Japan, that he was planning on striking Iran. Trump invoked Pearl Harbor while defending the U.S. strike on Iran and his decision not to alert allies in advance. The Dec. 7, 1941, Japanese bombing of the U.S. Navy base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii killed more than 2,300 Americans, with the U.S. declaring war against Japan the next day.
