Before Auschwitz: Survivor Accounts Of The Darkest Transition In History

44 inmates from countries across Europe, 44 Jews with a number tattooed on their arm, 44 men, women and children deported to Auschwitz… who lived to tell their stories. The survivors give us the story of growing up in the 1930s, in Greece, Poland, Germany, Belgium, Romania, Hungary, and France… and of internment in Auschwitz as young adults. They are among the tiny minority who survived the horror. Together, they share their stories, and the stories of those who never returned. Our documentary explores the history of the Auschwitz deportations through the words of 44 Jewish survivors. Combining first-person accounts and archive footage, alongside a number of interviews and animated reconstructions, what emerges is a composite picture of the Auschwitz death factory, the ultimate symbol of the extermination of European Jewry.
